PR & International Festival

The friday started also with a day opening. After that we had an other session with Sonja. This morning session we didn’t do any games, but we had to work very hard. She first told us about media in your member organisation and how to deal with big disasters. As example she called the National Jamboree 2004 in the Netherlands… After the discussion about how to deal with that kind of media attention she told us a little bit about how organising a press conference and how to do an interview. And than we need to prepare one for ourselves. One group must prepare interviews and the other press conferences. My task was to prepare a press conference about a OROR-project in your country. You first need to prepare a little talk and then answer three questions from the audience. But there was little time left, so we had little conferences and interviews of one minute each.

In the free time after the lunch I asked the other girls to write down something in m journal. At the end of the lunch break we had a meeting to prepare the national night. We need to prepare this by region, my region was Europe. Because the Irish girl had wrenched her leg and they had prepared an Irish Dance they learned me their dance so I could fall in for her. We also prepared a story about Europa (the god) and had a song from Norway. We also had time to lay down in the sun. The snow almost was disappeared.

The second session this day was about the Big 6. Those are the 6 biggest NGO’s from the world. They come together and participate in the United Nations. Both WAGGGS and WOSM are part of the Big 6. Linden also told us about the UN-teams and what kind of work they do. Then we made groups in which we need to prepare a speech in front of the UN on an annual conference. We also must choose who the speaker is and what subject. But it must be something real. We choose for subjects from the world survey, especially adolescent health and no smoking areas. It was a little bit frustrating preparing this presentation, because the other girls were very quick and didn’t listen to what we said. After the coffee break we had to do our presentations. Which went very good.

Than it was time for the evening programme, which was the international festival. Europe had to go first, so we started with our story about Europa, the Irish dance, Welsh story, the Norwegian song, the Dutch Candy, Norwegian game and a Scottish song. Then the other regions had to show there presentations. It was a good evening with a lot of sharing cultures, we song American songs, did Brazilian dances, Lebanese game and finally South-Africa as the only African region-country with some cabaret. After the presentations we had made displays about our home country and some girls swopped badges. Also a lot of girls made little presents for the other girls. I had just enough, because I wasn’t sure how many girls there would be. After the festival, some girls goes back to the pub, were we went Tuesday. The Mexican girl came back telling that she had met a nice boy.
